SERENA Williams hit back at claims a "close friend" deliberately tried to upset her opponent Nicole Vaidisova during their Australian Open semi-final with dazzling sun reflections from his watch. Television footage highlighted a young man sitting with Williams's entourage at Rod Laver Arena yesterday with his left wrist raised to his chin and sunlight reflecting brightly off his watch. " As of now, I'm not answering any more questions about a God-dang watch. This is stupid. " – Serena Williams Australian Open finalst Channel 7 commentator John Barrett alleged the pictures were shot while the Czech teenager was serving and the reflection was shining in her eyes. "It is an extraordinary coincidence that whenever Vaidisova is serving, that youngster seems to be getting (the sunlight) into the eyes of Vaidisova," Barrett said....

SEOUL -- North Korean leader Kim Jong Il has recently recognized the academic works of dozens of local scholars by presenting them with wrist watches as part of his "gift politics." But this policy may not last much longer when the international community implements the U.N. sanctions resolution slapped on North Korea following its nuclear test last month.According to the (North) Korean Central News Agency, a total of 26 professors and officials at the country's prestigious Kim Il Sung University were awarded the watches inscribed with the captions, "Gift of Great Leader Kim Il Sung," in reference to the country's founding leader and father of the current leader Kim Jong Il.The award was part of Kim's unique ruling technique of using gifts to keep a key group of supporters in his hands.Under the "gift politics," Kim has provided wrist watches and other luxury goods to his aides and ruling elite members to reward their unconditional loyalty toward him....

Zane Clark, the high school run ning back with Division I talent, who played three years for Hamil ton before transferring to Trenton before this season, was in the stands yesterday fresh from a 10-day stay at Capital Health System/Helene Fuld Medical Center. Update: Caller ID Watch One Step Closer
Posted Tuesday, October 31, 2006 1:44:03 PM by Blog57 Team
The day when you can twist your wrist to see who's calling may soon be at hand. Because the Federal Communications Commission has just approved Fossil and Sony Ericsson's new Bluetooth-enabled Caller ID watches for release in the U.S. When PDAStreet spoke to Fossil VP of Watch Technology Bill Geiser last month, he said the timepieces would start to ship in mid October, but that obviously didn't happen. Of course, the FCC must give its blessing to all devices that use American airwaves. So waiting for the government agency's approval may have been the hold up that kept the four variations on the Bluetooth watch out of user's hands past their original due date. We'll find out soon enough. Update: A Fossil reprehensive has informed PDAStreet that the company just received the charging clips for the Bluetooth watches last week....

WILLIAMS WITHDRAWS
Posted Wednesday, October 25, 2006 3:26:03 PM by Blog57 Team
Mark Williams has withdrawn from the Royal London Watches Grand Prix in Aberdeen due to a wrist injury. The two-time world champion injured his left wrist in a gym about 10 days ago and, despite battling on in three group matches, the Welshman decided the pain and discomfort was too much to contend with. "My wrist is hurting and I can't play properly," said WilIiams. "I don't want to make it worse so I have decided to pull out and rest it before the next tournament." That will be the UK Championship at the Barbican Centre in York in December. Williams decided to pull out of this event after losing his third match, a 3-1 defeat to Robin Hull, a match in which the left-hander looked in real discomfort. "Every time I play a shot with pace I get a lot of pain," added Williams....

Caller ID at the flick of a wrist

It's a moment many of us have experienced: The cellphone, deep in your pocket or stuffed in an out-of-reach briefcase, starts to ring as you're driving. It could just be a friend, calling to gossip. Or it might be someone at the office, warning you that the meeting you're headed to has been canceled. If only there were a way to know who was calling without having to reach for the phone. Wristwatch maker Fossil has come up with a way, using wireless Bluetooth technology. A small screen on the face of two new Bluetooth men's watches, priced at $200 and $250, displays the name of your caller (if it's someone in your phone's contact list) or the phone number. Tap a button, and you can send the call straight to voice mail. You can't answer the call and speak into the watch -- at least not yet....

Clock store open in downtown Greeley

It's more than just clocks -- although there are a lot more of those in varying sizes, styles and prices. King's Clocks, which opened in downtown Greeley about a week ago, has expanded its business with painted glass pieces, wind chimes and Rock Salt Crystal Lamps mined from the Himalayan mountains. More home accessories such as wine cabinets and bar stools are on the way. It's come a long way from when Charles and Patricia King first opened their clock shop from their home in east Greeley in April 2002. When Weiss Jewelers vacated the downtown store in May, the Kings decided it was time to expand their business and move it to a more accessible and visible location at 827 10th St. "I think we are now the largest clock dealer in northern Colorado," King said....
